Visiting Us
The museum will be made accessible, as available, during the week, for school groups of all ages. Please contact us to discuss curriculum focused or general tours. The organization is staffed with volunteers, so dates may be limited.
The general public will be admitted on “Open House” days. These will typically be on two Saturdays per month. The schedule, with hours, will be announced on the New Ipswich Museum Facebook page. (coming soon!)
Teachers are welcome to come view the museum prior to visiting, to discuss a more catered experience to coincide with your curriculum. We also will have a hands on component, so students will actually be able to touch and examine original artifacts covering 1000+ years of American history.
What you will see
The museum goer will view hundreds of original artifacts, dating from Pre History through 1945. The emphasis of the exhibits will feature collections of artifacts from individual men and women, who served our country from 1600-1945. Each exhibit will illustrate world changing events and lead to a better understanding of how average Americans persevered under extraordinary and difficult situations, serving as examples of what it is to be good citizens and Patriots.
Working with students and interns
We also would be glad to work with individuals pursuing degrees in History or Museum Studies. Those who volunteer as docents will be shown proper techniques for handling, documenting, displaying and cataloging artifacts. After an initial period, which will include docent training and best practices training, students will be allowed to design an exhibit of their own. Independent study projects would also be welcomed.
Donations
Can you donate?? Yes, of course, we would welcome that!! The building has been largely restored including a new floor, new roof and new paint. These costs, and the cost of the objects, lighting and cases within, have been borne by the Kraska family. We do have several projects which are important to continue this effort.
- The building is dehumidified, but does not have a source of heating or cooling. Although it would be cost prohibitive to keep the museum open during the winter, we will be open during the months of April through November, which will require some supplemental heating/ cooling. During the winter months, we also must keep a minimum appropriate temperature to protect the artifacts within.
- To provide equal access to those with physical challenges we would like to be able to convert the bathroom to a Handicap accessible version. The current bathroom has several stairs and 1 very narrow stall. With this project we would also need to have a ramp installed at the front entrance, so that the building itself will also be accessible.
